Consumer Compliance Addendum (UK)

This Addendum forms part of the Local Buddy Terms & Conditions and Service Pro Agreement.

Platform Status Disclosure

Local Buddy operates solely as a digital marketplace.

Local Buddy does not:

  • Provide the listed services
  • Employ Service Pros
  • Guarantee performance

The contract for services is formed directly between the Customer and the Service Pro. This disclosure is made in compliance with the Consumer Rights Act 2015 transparency requirements.

Service Quality (Statutory Rights)

Nothing in the Platform Terms excludes or limits a Customer’s statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Under UK law, services must:

  • Be carried out with reasonable care and skill
  • Be provided within a reasonable time (if no timeframe agreed)
  • Match any description provided

If services fail to meet these standards, the Customer may be entitled to:

  • Repeat performance.
  • Price reduction.

Service Pros are solely responsible for meeting these legal standards.

Pre-Contract Info (Consumer contract regulation (2013))

Before a Booking is confirmed, the Platform will ensure Customers are provided with:

  • Identity of the Service Pro (business name where applicable)
  • Description of services
  • Total price (including taxes and fees)
  • Cancellation policy
  • Complaint process

Customers confirm they have reviewed this information before confirming a Booking.

Right to cancel (Cooling-off period)

Standard Position

Where a Booking constitutes a distance contract under UK law, Customers may have a 14-day cancellation right.

Waiver for Immediate Services

If a Customer requests services to begin within the 14-day cooling-off period, they:

  • Expressly request early performance; and
  • Acknowledge that cancellation rights may be lost once the service is fully performed.

This acknowledgement must be captured at checkout

Completed Services

If the service is fully performed within the cooling-off period with the Customer’s consent, the right to cancel no longer applies.

Transparent Pricing

All fees must be clearly displayed before confirmation.

No hidden charges may be added after Booking confirmation unless:

  • Agreed by the Customer; or
  • Necessary due to materially changed circumstances.

Fair terms confirmation

All Terms are intended to comply with the fairness test under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

In particular:

  • Terms do not create a significant imbalance to the detriment of consumers.
  • Liability exclusions do not remove statutory rights.
  • Dispute processes are transparent and accessible.

If any clause is found unfair or unenforceable, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in force.

Complaints Handling Procedure

Customers may submit complaints via:

Complaints will be:

  • Acknowledged within 3 business days
  • Investigated within 14 days where possible

Local Buddy may mediate disputes but does not replace court remedies.

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

If a dispute cannot be resolved internally, Customers may:

  • Seek independent legal advice
  • Use an ADR provider where applicable

Local Buddy is not currently obligated to participate in ADR unless required by law.

Misleading Practices

Service Pros must not:

  • Misrepresent qualifications
  • Provide false pricing
  • Use deceptive practices

Violation may result in removal.

This supports compliance with the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

Digital Platform Transparency

Where search results are displayed:

  • Ranking factors may include reviews, proximity, availability, and responsiveness.
  • Sponsored listings (if introduced) will be clearly identified.

Limitation Clause Safeguard

Nothing in the Platform Terms:

  • Excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence
  • Excludes liability for fraud
  • Limits statutory consumer rights

Record Keeping

Local Buddy may retain booking records to:

  • Demonstrate compliance
  • Handle disputes
  • Meet legal obligations
